Local media-file utility for Mac

Keep the tracks you want. Leave the source alone.

Muxsmith lets you inspect video, audio and subtitle tracks, choose what stays, and write a new container without re-encoding video or audio.

In development for macOS 14 and later. No public download yet.

The workbench

Precise choices, without an editing timeline.

Muxsmith handles the container and track work around a media file. It does not add effects, re-grade footage, remove DRM or upload anything.

01 · Remux

Inspect every track before writing the output.

See video, audio and subtitle streams with codec, language, title, dimensions, channels and flags. Keep or remove each stream independently for every file in a batch.

VideoHEVC · 3840 × 2160Keep
AudioEnglish · 5.1Keep
AudioCommentary · StereoRemove
SubtitleEnglish · SDHKeep

02 · Containers

Copy video and audio. Convert text subtitles only when needed.

Keep the source container by default or choose MP4, MOV, MKV, M4V or WebM. Muxsmith copies selected video and audio streams. It converts compatible text subtitles only when the target container requires another text format.

03 · Split

Choose a range or split point with a visual preview.

Scrub, step backward or forward one frame, and use the playhead for a clip range or two-part split. Outputs use stream copy, so a cut may align to a nearby keyframe.

04 · Join

Join compatible files in the order you choose.

Combine two or more files without re-encoding when their codecs and stream layouts match. Muxsmith checks compatibility before it queues the job.

05 · Sequence rename

Turn a folder of episodes into a clean sequence.

Preview show, season and episode names across a batch. Natural filename ordering, collision checks and a two-phase rename protect swaps and existing files.

06 · Batch queue

Prepare several jobs, then run them in order.

Add work to a deferred queue or put a remux ahead of waiting jobs. Muxsmith processes one job at a time, shows progress when duration is available, and lets you cancel the current job.

Files stay on your Mac

The source remains the source.

Muxsmith reads the files you choose and writes new outputs. It does not silently replace the originals.
