Current status
Muxsmith is not publicly downloadable yet.
The planned first release will be distributed directly as a signed and notarized DMG. Do not download a file presented elsewhere as an official Muxsmith release.

What the planned release requires.
- A Mac running macOS 14 or later.
- Enough free storage for new output files and, when needed, a temporary local Split preview.
- Read access to the selected source and write access to the chosen output folder.
- No separate FFmpeg installation. Muxsmith bundles FFmpeg and ffprobe.
Remux and track selection
Choose exactly which streams remain.
Add one or more files with the picker or by dropping them into Muxsmith. After inspection, each file shows its video, audio and subtitle tracks. You can include or exclude them independently.
Same as Input
This is the default and preserves each source container, including in mixed batches.
Container override
You can apply MP4, MOV, MKV, M4V or WebM to the batch. Compatibility is checked per file.
Text subtitles
Muxsmith converts supported text subtitles only when the destination requires another native text format. Video and audio are copied.
Unsupported streams
Muxsmith marks streams that cannot go into the chosen container and asks before omitting them. A file with no streams left cannot be queued.
Split
Preview a file, then choose a range or split point.
Use the native preview, scrubber, one-frame controls, or comma and period keys to place the playhead. You can create one clip from a start and end time, or split a file into the portion before the point and the remainder after it.
If macOS cannot preview the source container, Muxsmith prepares a temporary local MP4 preview by copying compatible streams. The original source still supplies the final split.
Join
Compatible files can be joined without re-encoding.
Add two or more files in the order you want. Their codecs and stream layouts must match for a stream-copy join. If they do not, Muxsmith reports the incompatibility instead of silently converting them.
Sequence Rename
Preview episode names before changing files.
Muxsmith sorts each added batch in Finder-style natural order. Enter the show name, season, starting episode and number padding, then review every destination. Extensions remain unchanged.
Duplicate destinations and collisions with unrelated files are blocked. A two-phase rename prevents file swaps from overwriting each other.
Outputs and source safety
Processing writes a new file.
- Source media is not silently replaced.
- Remux and Split default to the first selected source file's folder, with an editable output path.
- Jobs complete through a temporary output before the finished file is moved into place.
- Queue jobs run one at a time. You can cancel the current job and clear finished jobs.
Automatic updates
Sparkle updates are planned, not available.
The release plan uses Sparkle 2 with Apple code-signing checks and Sparkle signatures. The app integration, signed update archive and public appcast must all pass release testing before this feature is described as available.
